Bonsai Propagation Taxonomy Cultivation
Propagation with : Cutting - hardwood;Cutting - softwood;Seed
Seed: Grown easily from seeds they hybradize easily so can often be different than expected. The seed is best sown as soon as it is ripe in the autumn in a cold frame, when it will usually germinate in the spring. Stored seed germinates faster if given 3 months warm stratification at 15°c and then 3 months cold stratification at 4°c.Some seeds can take upto 2 years to germinate. Pot the seedlings up as soon as they are large enough to handle and grow them on in a cool house for at least the first year.
Softwood: Softwood cutting mid -spring to early summer.
Hardwood: Cuttings of half-ripe wood with a heel, July/August in a cold frame.
Air Layering: Air layers quite easily - between spring and early summer.
