Bonsai Course for Beginners

The Bonsai Tree Boot Camp is a Synthesis of our most popular bonsai course,  that we have been running over the last 10 years or so. The intensive bonsai tree class put a lot of learning into a single day. While it is aimed at persons who are looking to up their bonsai tree skills, because we start at the beginning, even the absolute beginner will find it very satisfying. Just remember that you will have to contend with lots of learning, both theoretical and practical. 

The day is divided into 3 Modules, over which we will cover the following topics.

101: Bonsai Tree Basic Intro and Care 

You will be introduced to Bonsai its origins and history. to our nine-point system on managing and caring for your bonsai and how to keep it alive and well.  You will study the basics of where to locate your bonsai, how to water, feeding bonsai and other housekeeping tasks that need to be undertaken to ensure a healthy vibrant bonsai.

102: Bonsai Tree Pruning

Bonsai is a living growing and transient art form and as such has to be continuously managed and cared for from day to day from week to week and season to season. To maintain the bonsai miniature size one has to continuously prune bonsai. This module will introduce you to the basics of bonsai pruning, when to prune, how to prune and what to prune. 

103: Bonsai Tree Repotting

Bonsai are grown in a small container with a limited amount of soil, which needs to be replenished from time to time. This module teaches how to recognise if a bonsai needs repotting and how to report it. Basic soil science, repotting techniques and methodologies are covered to ensure that you have successful stress-free repotting.

Delivery:

We believe it is import to understand the Why as much as the How and the When, as this prepares you to respond to and even anticipate the needs of your bonsai, so they can enjoy and long, healthy, and fruitful existence with you. To this end, the boot Camp is delivered in sections that are intensively tutored, and sections that are very hands-on.

Dates and Times

The Beginners Bonsai Course is conducted from 10 am to 6 pm, usually over on  2 or 3 Sunday of the Month.  Beginners Boot Camps will be available throughout the year. Check out the latest Time Table 

Course Fees

The Beginners Bonsai Course Fees are £150.  You pay £75 at the time of booking and the balance £75 on the day you attend the course.

General Information

Tea and Coffees will be provided throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch, there will be a short break between morning and afternoon sessions. Please dress warmly as we work both in the studio and outdoors in the nursery and London weather can be very changeable.

After the Beginners Course

You are encouraged to attend our varied and frequent workshops, which will help you build up your bonsai skill and confidence.  Join our the Online Forum, where you can ask questions and learn from fellow students past and presents and also other enthusiasts. Visit our Blog which has a database of Species of Plants that you can grow as bonsai and how to grow them.
